Directorís Report

December 2010

In December I visited members in Waunakee, Black Earth, Cross Plains and the Lakeview branch of the Madison Public Library. Deb Haeffner and I drove to Belleville to meet with their Director and discuss interior paint colors. On December 22, we were excited to host Assistant State Superintendent, Kurt Kiefer at SCLS.He asked for a meeting to discuss the possibility of a partnership between SCLS and DPI.Mr. Kiefer is interested in creating a web template for libraries to use when creating statistical reports. The possibility of open source software, like Koha, could make the implementation simpler.

We received an update from Bob Bocker of DPI that the FCC ruled that telecommunications costs are not subject to CIPA compliance.Sally Drew retired after 34 years with DPI in December.

The SCLS Board will have 2 vacancies until new board members are appointed by the Dane County Executive. The new members will be replacing David Wiganowsky and Theresa McIlroy.

The topic is the announcement by the Sheboygan mayor that Sheboygan will not be funding their library to a level that meets their maintenance of effort and puts them out of compliance for membership in the Eastern Shores Library System.

A reminder that the SCLS Foundation will meet after the SCLS Board of Trustees meeting.
